Oh I don't feel sorry for him at all. He walked off a guaranteed cinematic sinecure because the Counter Culture thought Bond was "square" (and he was, my God, have you heard his opinion of The Beatles?), but it's not like he quit to go do Easy Rider or Medium Cool or even Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.
He *was* in a 1984 episode of The Master with Timothy Van Patten, so he had that going for him...
One of the great mysteries of life is the number of people who think "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" is one of the better Bond films. Among its many faults is the complete waste of Diana Rigg, who seems to have been confused as to the nature of her role except to die as a plot point. Full disclosure - Rigg was my first celebrity crush as Emma Peel, so seeing her treated as a brainless ingenue is particularly painful. Thanks, as always, for your discerning eye for the bizarre and inexplicable.
Y'know, I'd almost feel sorry for Lazenby if he wasn't such a dick.

That's where I was going with this: If he wasn't such a dick, I'd pity his follow up choices.
Now? That's about all that's charming about him, his awful choices. It's like laughing at a dog with floppy ears chasing a bicycle and tripping.
Well put.
There was no one in this movie I wanted to see on screen, so I skipped it.
Why break a lucky streak now?

My pleasure. And you’re right that the greatest sin committed by OHMSS—and they are legion—is the absolute waste of Dame Diana.
Excellent synopses of this Master Class in 80s aesthetics.
If only Gene Simmons and Alice Nunn had swapped movies!
Nunn as Velvet Von Ragnar probably would have earned NTYTD an Oscar.
And Simmons would have been a good Large Marge,
Just the thought of him wagging his tongue after saying "It looked like this!"
gives me chills.
Oh what could have been.
They wouldn’t have even needed special effects for the Large Marge scare shot. Gene’s tongue already looks like Claymation.
